Recipients of this year's awards to local nonprofit organizations will be announced and checks presented by Foundation Vice President and Grant Committee Chairman Chris Wetzler.
The foundation is a community trust that was founded in 2005 and manages charitable funds, most of which are permanently endowed.
In 2006, the fledgling local group was able to award $7,000 to nonprofits, while 2007 saw 13 Milan agencies share $29,000.
Among last year's grant winners were the following community groups: Milan Learning's community garden, Milan Area Historical Society, Milan Area Fire Department, city of Milan Beautification Commission, Aid in Milan, First Steps, Paddock Early Childhood Center, Milan Parks and Recreation, Milan Senior Center, Milan High School literacy tutors, and Milan Adult and Community Education.
The funds paid for new text books, training, equipment, resources and research for some of the area's most valuable community service groups.
Earnings from the foundation's general endowment, which is supported by local donors, make the grants possible.
Those interested in attending the free program are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
